I have just fallen back in love with Magnetic Island and just had to write all about my weekend. It was my birthday so I decided that it was time to partake in the magnificent Jet Ski tour that is available every day of the year (weather permitting of course). The water was like glass – honestly you could be any where in the world but here we were in our own backyard, marvelling at the beauty .. absolute paradise. It was the most rewarding thing I have done this year. There were turtles (shy and evasive but they were spotted), sea birds and even butterfly’s. This is an active sport so it does not cater to all ages & fitness levels however there is time to warm up and get used to riding the ski. You can take it as easy or as fast as the ski will allow and the speed is caped for safety reasons so there really is no reason for most people to be able to have as much fun as I did! You ride in pairs, so go with someone you trust! Peter and Sharon have been running the business for 12 years and they will definitely be able to advise you about your suitability.
Instead of staying for lunch and then getting the ferry home again, which is totally worth doing if you are time poor… I thought I would stay and experience the Stage Door theatre! Now I have heard about this show for 7 long years and believe me it’s reputation precedes itself. Finally I can cross it off the list, or, can add it to the long list of reasons to return more to the point. The professionalism and quality of the show from the moment we arrived was outstanding and the food…. Really, really good!! You need to go – take a group and let your hair down. It is well timed around the ferry service so if you need to return to Townsville that night it is made very simple for you. Log onto Stage door and check out the up and coming performances.
We stayed 2 nights and are planning another trip within the month to complete the wish list. I still want to do the horse ride on Horseshoe bay at sunrise and there is also that Golf course that I have not yet become acquainted with…
Magnetic Island is close, hassle free and on par with any other Island escape I have ever been treated too – go for a day trip – stay for the weekend or make it the one long holiday of the year where you truly are able to relax.
Visitors will be overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of the beaches and bays and the absolutely magic terrain. There is even a brand new, well lit, skate park over there for the teens. Accommodation is abundant and caters to all budgets – one house a little way back from Horseshoe bay was only $75 per night for 3 bedrooms – you would need a car but everything you need is there in the house including a BBQ. We stayed on the beach front at Horseshoe Bay for $280 per night. Fully self contained 2 bedroom apartment with a balcony that overlooks the glass – Oh I mean ocean.
